Serie A powerhouses AS Roma have made an official approach to Fiorentina for their star striker Adrian Mutu.
The 29-year-old had been linked with a move to German club Schalke earlier this summer, but now appears likely to be heading for the Italian capital.
La Viola director of sport Pantaleo Corvino commented: "In the last few hours I have received an official offer from AS Roma.
"Taking this into consideration, it is my job and that of Fiorentina to meet with the club making the enquiries.
"Fiorentina's policy is to keep its players, but when it comes to someone close to the age of 30, if they ask to leave then it is our duty to listen to offers.
"It seems right and logical to consider the offer and, if it is valid, to talk it over. It is legitimate for a player to ask to leave and think about other alternatives."
Mutu has scored 38 goals in two seasons with Fiorentina, having also played in Italy with Juventus, Hellas Verona and Internazionale.
