Barnsley manager Simon Davey was left devastated after seeing his side lose 2-0 at Crewe Alexandra in the first round of the Carling Cup.
Two first-half penalties put paid to the Tykes, who created a number of chances to get back into the game at Gresty Road.
Davey admitted: "I'm devastated to have not won that game.
"We had the chances to win it three times over but if you don't take your chances that is what happens.
"I've got not dispute with the penalties, but I am very disappointed and to go out at this round is a disaster for us.
"We didn't play well in the first half. In the second half there was only one team in it, but the damage was done in the first half."
