Head coach Fabio Capello has confirmed that John Terry will captain England in their friendly international against the USA at Wembley on Wednesday evening.
The 27-year-old Chelsea skipper has yet to lead the national team since Capello took charge, with Steven Gerrard named as captain against Switzerland and Rio Ferdinand handed the armband against France.
Terry had previously been the permanent leader under Steve McClaren, but missed the game against the Swiss at Wembley due to injury and was overlooked for the clash with Les Bleus in the Stade de France.
However, Capello believes that giving Terry back the leadership will help the Blues star get over his Champions League final heartache.
He said: "It is a good decision for John Terry after last Wednesday, which was not nice for him.
"He has played very well in training and when I told him he would be captain he was very, very happy.
"As a captain I think it is important to be a leader and John Terry is a leader."
