Are Liverpool moving in the right direction?

11 July 2008 - 19:27

The past week at Anfield has seen a few interesting transfer stories unfold, mainly involving Gareth Barry, Xabi Alonso and Peter Crouch.

So far Liverpool have brought in two unproven full-backs in Degen and Dossena and also look like signing Gareth Barry.

Going the other way so far are Harry Kewell, John Arne Riise and Peter Crouch with Xabi Alonso soon leaving for Juventus if Barry comes in..

Barry will cost £19m while Alonso will only cost Juventus £16m, both players are roughly of the same ability yet Liverpool lose £3m in the deal. Peter Crouch who has always been a solid performer has left for Portsmouth while players like Andrei Voronin are still kept at the club. Benitez has pulled out of the race to sign David Villa while Spurs wont want to sell Robbie Keane so again Liverpool look set to lose out with the Crouch deal.

Liverpool were a class below Man Utd and Chelsea last season and again don't seem to be making any giant leap forward this season so will it just be another average season at the club who's main aim should be to win the League?
