Hamburg hit back from two goals behind to draw 2-2 at champions Bayern Munich in the opening game of the new Bundesliga season.
The home side were 2-0 up after 16 minutes thanks to goals from Bastian Schweinsteiger and Lukas Podolski, but Hamburg hit back to earn a point thanks to strikes from Paolo Guerrero and Piotr Trochowski.
New Bayern coach Jurgen Klinsmann said afterwards: "Of course I would have preferred a three-point start to the season, but I would say the result is fair.
"Both sides had several chances to score more goals and I am a bit disappointed, but we have a point and can now build on that."
Martin Jol, who took charge at Hamburg this summer, added: "I think when you are two goals down against Bayern Munich, it's almost a miracle to get a draw.
"I have got to say we did really well and we can be very happy."
