A nightmare start for Derby added up to a dream one for Doncaster, who celebrated their first match for 50 years at Championship level by inflicting more frustration on home manager Paul Jewell.

The County boss has still to win a competitive match since he took charge back in November and has only taken five points from his 25 games in office.

For Rovers it could not have been a more different picture as their 3,000 fans celebrated wildly after Lewis Guy had fired in the 59th minute goal that earned them three points.

It was no exaggeration to say that Doncaster looked more like a side that had been playing in the Premier League last season than Derby, who once again struggled after a bright start.

Kris Commons threatened to spoil Doncaster's day in the first half when his pacey runs through the middle and clever free-kicks presented openings that were not taken.

Rob Hulse struck a post and Neil Sullivan was twice forced into action by stinging drives from Commons, but Doncaster also had their moments.

Guy failed to make the most of an excellent ball from the outstanding Brian Stock and Gareth Taylor thought he had found the corner of the net with a glancing header, until Roy Carroll plunged to his left to save.

The second half belonged to the visitors whose composed passing game and willingness to fight for everything limited Derby to scraps.

When the goal came, it was well worked with James Hayter back-heeling a quickly-taken free-kick into the path of Guy who swept a low shot from ten yards past Carroll.

He almost scored another three minutes later when a right-foot volley was saved superbly by Carroll, but although Derby huffed and puffed, they could not force a reply.

Doncaster had a couple of scares in the six minutes of stoppage time, but they deservedly held on to celebrate a famous victory, while Derby were once again left to reflect on another defeat.
