Valencia are hopeful of being able to agree a new improved contract with Spain striker David Villa, who has been linked with a big-money move away from the Mestalla.
The 26-year-old has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Real Madrid since playing a starring role in Spain's success at Euro 2008, but he now seems almost certain to stay put.
Villa's agent, Jose Luis Tamargo, told AS: "It's been a satisfactory first meeting and we've got everyone seeing our way of thinking.
"All I can say is that we are all in the same boat, Villa and Valencia.
"David Villa is a Valencia player, he has a contract and he feels an emotional attachment to the club.
"He's happy at Valencia and always has been and I hope he continues to be for many more years."
Valencia's sporting vice-president, Fernando Gomez, admitted that his club were hopeful of keeping hold of both Villa and midfielder David Silva.
He told El Mundo Deportivo: "Villa's agent has been here and we held the same discussions with him as we had on Tuesday with Silva.
"We want the player to stay here and we're going to continue the discussions. Both players are very close to staying."
